Sunday driving and September corn

September 10, 2007

After driving through the countryside today, I got that feeling.

Early September, in the midwest,  has to be the best weather in the world.  Clear blue skies, upper 70s and no humidity (my pain has ended).  It is so beautiful and still so sad.  I know the end 0f Summer is near.  The sky is so blue.  The corn is so brown.  And so starts my annual bout of melancholy.

Buck up, little camper. My pool’s still open.

I was born in those cornfields, which get pretty damn humid in the summer, but you are absolutely right. Fall and fields of plenty and blue skies, summer is at the clearance sales. But autumn is lovely and winter is even more so, and then the growing season comes again. How blessed are we to have the seasons.
