Rising star (or Schock and Awww)

September 7, 2008

Aaron Schock is running for Congress in the 18th Congressional district of Illinois (not mine). Not only is he incredibly cute, he has an incredible story. And you might be saying to yourself, “er, John, he looks a bit young” and you’d be right. He’s 27. Inexperienced, you might think, but you’d be wrong. He was elected to his local school board at age 19, defeating the school board president. He is currently serving his second term as an Illinois state representative. I’ll let him speak for himself:

If he wins, he’ll be the first congressman to be elected that was born during the Reagan years. Go Aaron!

(Sadly, I’m stuck with this guy. At least my district spoons the 18th…)

With his stated emphasis on constituent service and hard work, I can see why this guy is successful. Aaron Schock seems like a guy that could get your passport and VA or Social Security claims expedited, which is much more important to Joe Sixpack than a position on abortion or campaign finance reform. South Carolina’s long-serving Senator, Strom Thurman, understood that very well, which is why so many people- Republican and Democrat- continued to vote for him decade after decade. If that little clip is an accurate description of him, I’d vote for Schock.

All that is true but you mentioned nothing about how incredibly cute he is (this shit is important!).

    Yeah, yeah. That, too.
