It’s already boring; let’s give it some ugliness

April 5, 2009

Another weekend roadtrip story. I love driving. I especially love driving old highways and byways. Interstate highways are efficient ways for transporting people and products but they are also very boring. They purposely skip those little “peek and plum” (h/t Mother) towns that I find so fascinating.

And another fascinating thing about the country…Windmills:

It’s hard to drive through central Illinois without seeing them. They’re massive, they’re omnipresent (h/t Dave) and unmistakable. Oh, and like the ethanol plants, they grow like weeds.

Cool! I saw a bunch of windmills when I went to Holland a couple of years ago. A lot of them were in bad shape. It seems like a good thing we’re exploring alterative energy. I hope we keep them running (and they keep us running).

If windmills are our future, I say no. You don’t understand the hugeness of the windmills or the amount of land that is dominated by them.
